Traditional Orthodontic Treatment

The benefits of orthodontic treatment often go beyond the noticeable physical changes of an improved bite and straighter teeth; it’s also a great way to improve a person’s overall self-image. While having beautiful straight teeth is important, it’s even more essential to alleviate any potential health problems associated with your teeth or jaw.

Crooked teeth or jaw problems may contribute to improper teeth cleaning, leading to tooth decay and gum disease or total tooth loss. Untreated issues can lead to chewing and digestion difficulties, speech impairments, and abnormal wear of tooth surfaces. Over time, excessive strain on gum tissue and the bone that supports your teeth can affect the jaw joints, leading to headaches or face and neck pain.

Invisalign® Certified

Dr. Jeff Kwong has taken extensive courses to become Invisalign certified and to be able to offer his patients the best treatments available. Metal Braces are not for everyone and so Invisalign is another great option when looking to straighten teeth, improve oral health, or to have an overall great smile.

If you are a candidate for Invisalign your treatment will consist of a series of aligners that you switch out about every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place. And since your Invisalign system is custom-made for your teeth and your teeth only, with a plan devised by you and Dr. Kwong, you know you’ll end up with a smile that truly fits.

What Do Orthodontists Do?

Orthodontists are dental specialists who diagnose and treat problems with the alignment of the teeth, and irregularities in the face and jaw. We use a number of special treatments, including braces and other appliances to correct these issues.

Why Should I, or My Loved Ones, Get Orthodontic Treatment?

There are two good reasons: esthetics and function. Having an attractive smile not only changes the way people see you, it also enhances your self image as well. Orthodontic treatment will also allow your teeth to function better which makes it easier to chew and to keep them clean.

When Should Orthodontic Treatment Start?

You are never too old to undergo orthodontic treatment. If you start earlier, sometimes there are problems that we can correct that we cannot if you are older. The American Association of Orthodontics recommends a child see an orthodontist for an evaluation around the age of 7.

Does Getting Braces Hurt?

Having braces is generally painless. Some people experience minor aches and pains the first couple of days as they adjust to having something new in their mouths. There are many things can help alleviate the minor discomfort such as over the counter pain medication, and eating softer, colder, foods such as ice cream or smoothies.

How Long Does Treatment Last?

This is different for each person, depending on the severity of their case. Active treatment can range anywhere from 6 to 30 months, but the usual is about 24 months.

Do I Still Need to See My Dentist While in Orthodontic Treatment?

Yes, absolutely. Keeping your teeth free of plaque can be more challenging with braces on. So seeing your dentist while in braces is very important to keeping your teeth and gums healthy.

Is Orthodontic Treatment Expensive?

Orthodontic care is a long-term investment in your health and well-being. Yet it’s cost has not increased as fast as other consumer prices. We never want finances to be a barrier to getting that smile you have always wanted, so we offer many financing options that will help make care more affordable.
